Ferrell confesses to Columbus express train murder robbery
Charles R H Ferrell a former Adams Express Co employee confessed to killing Express Messenger Lane and robbing the way safe on the Pennsylvania line between St Louis and Columbus. He planned the crime to fund his approaching marriage to Miss Lillian Costlow, with about $1080 recovered and the remainder unrecovered. Ferrell acted alone, waited at Urbana, shot Lane, opened the safe, packed cash and money orders, and fled to Plain City before traveling to Columbus. Detectives tracked him to Miss Costlow’s home and obtained his confession. Ferrell is from Steubenville, 22, and had been discharged from Adams Express after three prior complaints.
