Memphis April 21 The Mississippi Louisiana flood remains gloomy with widespread damage to crops especially corn and heavy losses for cotton planters. Rail service to Meridian and south of Vicksburg is suspended with reopening uncertain as waters rise and repairs lag.
Flood damage overloads Mobile & Ohio line with 300 workers repairing breaks and trains expected to resume by Monday. Farmers lose vast stock as many farms lie ten feet under water and families seek higher ground. Rivers overflow threatening the Pascagoula boom and L & N bridge downstream.
The Philadelphia has reached Panama and will be ordered home along with the Detroit which has been at Chiriqui lagoon. Navy reports say the cause for the ships' presence has ended as revolutionary troubles on the isthmus have subsided perhaps due to the American cruisers. The Detroit will sail soon for Portsmouth New Hampshire to be repaired and put out of commission.
The Seventh district Republican convention in Alma Wisconsin renominated Congressman John J Esch and chose delegates for Philadelphia. Resolutions endorsed the national and state administrations.
Friends of Kentucky Governor W S Taylor deny he will stay in Washington beyond filing the case with the Supreme Court. He is visiting W B Catchings at 1925 G Street while supervising his contest argument. Rumors of an indictment in Frankfort are mentioned but disputed by his supporters.
Washington April 21 House committee on invalid pensions chaired by Rep Sulloway NH reports to the House Senate bill 1477 known as the Grand Army bill. It narrows eligibility under the 1890 act and changes widow pension from 96 to 250 dollars annually. Japanese arrival alarms Treasury official seeks more examiners. Ali Ferrouh Bey Turkish minister expects government reply on American claims and defends Straus note.

New York April 21 Terry McGovern the featherweight champion was awarded the decision over Tommy Warren of Brooklyn at the end of the first round of a bout that was to have run 25 rounds at the Broadway Athletic Club.
In Belleville the Barnickel murder trial ends with six of seven convicts found guilty. Charles Hastings is jailed for 18 years, five others receive 14 year sentences, and John Dugan is acquitted. Monk Baxter awaits trial in Clinton county as Barnickel’s death near the Belleville jail is noted.
Boston reports twelve sacks of mail addressed to Francis Truth the divine healer have been impounded under fraud order. Many letters include money for absent treatment timing and amounts unclear. The postal service will open sacks and return addressed letters while others go to the dead letter office.
The British steamship Quito will transport relief cargo to Bombay for Indian plague and famine victims. The cargo owners could not provide an American-flag vessel, and no naval officer will command this voyage. An agent will accompany the ship, after contributors agreed to raise donations from 5,500 to 5,000 tons.
Chicago moves toward ending long running labor troubles as the building contractors council sends a committee to Mayor Harrison to join with building material men in a conference. A joint meeting with bosses union men and supply dealers may follow.
Heavy fighting is reported in progress near Kumassi as of April 21, with clashes ongoing in the region around Accra and Kumassi amid hostilities.

Ira Light and Frank Purcell, blamed for the January 13 Augusta murder of Rufe Ross, were each given life terms by a jury. Light, 35, married with four children, urged Purcell to shoot Ross again after the initial act. both were intoxicated. Purcell’s life sentence was handed down earlier this week. Separately, Mrs. Rachel Tilden of Chicago sues Louisville and Jeffersonville Ferry Co. for 15000 dollars over a dock fall that sent her into the river while boarding a steamer.
Bloomington sources report the grand jury returned a true bill against Peter E. Miller, former Bean Blossom township trustee, on embezzlement charges. Miller, removed after an earlier impeachment for malfeasance, allegedly misused about 1500 dollars. Weitere notices describe a Knightstown doctor’s death and local labor and assault allegations.
Scottsburg Indiana on April 21 reports a strike by employees at the Stienberg stave and heading factory halting operations and prompting talks with management.
Terre Haute Indiana April 21 The state convention of the Travelers Protective association began here with 150 delegates and hundreds of visitors in attendance. Converse Indiana April 21 Milton J Abbott fell from a ladder in his barn and died of injuries. he was 80 and wealthy.
