He died Saturday in Red Bud after one day as a patient. he was a WWII veteran and Monroe County resident. Also reported is the death of Robert O Kuni 66 of East Carondelet at Alton State Hospital. He was a retired dock clerk at Robinson Farm Supply and survived by his wife and several children and siblings. services were held at Columbia with burial at St Paul Cemetery.

Fire and gunshot end in tragedy at Foster Pond house
Erwin Schmidt 66 of Walmeyer died from a self inflicted gunshot after a confrontation with his former wife at Foster Pond Monday at about 9 am.
