Kennie Schmidt son of Mr and Mrs Walter Muench escaped serious injury when his car struck the rear of a merchandise laden truck on Millstadt Hill about 8 45 p m Monday. The car hit the truck at an angle shearing the roof but Schmidt was unhurt and alone in the car. The truck driven by Timothy Wittenauer of Freeburg carried seed and other farm supplies with no damage to the vehicle.

A 50 foot Lincoln totem pole stands in front of the Illinois State Museum in Springfield. The reconstructed column, carved by Alaska Indians, uses steel and fiberglass with the original base and figure preserved. Marion K.
