Secretary of State Paul Powell announced that about 100000 1966 license plates have been mailed from Springfield and more are on the way. He said this is the earliest mailout in the office’s history and urged motorists to apply now to avoid the deadline.
Retirement and unemployment can be collected simultaneously without affecting Social Security benefits, but check with the unemployment office. A 44 year old wife cannot receive benefits unless disabled and insured. A 56 year old widow without eligible children must wait until 62 for widow benefits or 60 for a reduced benefit. A woman can get a reduced widow’s benefit at 60 but needs 62 for own work or for a wife with no dependent children. Boy Scout Troop 320 held a Court of Honor at Immaculate Conception School basement on a Wednesday evening. Scoutmaster Harry Breitenstein led the ceremony with colors, pledge, and Star Spangled Banner followed by pins awarded to Gene Linnemann Gary Schlemmer Timothy Gilbreth and others.

The Monroe County Clarion and The Columbia Star announce earlier publication next week due to Thanksgiving. The Clarion prints at noon Tuesday with Monday noon copy deadline. The Star prints Wednesday with Wednesday morning copy deadline. Regular schedule resumes the following week.
Blood donors are urgently needed for a November 23 blood bank at St. Paul United Church of Christ in Columbia from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. The quota is 142 pints. Rejected donors may try again. Anyone can donate every two to three months. Columbia Jayceeettes offer babysitting during the event.

Mrs. Anna Mueth aged 73 of 603 W White St Millstadt died at Centreville Township Hospital at 105 PM Sunday after several months illness. She lived in Millstadt 35 years and was active in St James Church Ladies Sodality American Legion Auxiliary Golden Age Club and Ursuline Sisters Auxiliary. Survived by husband Joseph seven sons Arthur Cletus Erwin Henry Herbert Emil Sylvester two daughters Aurelia Alberter Luella Toenjes a sister Adolph Helfrich and two brothers Adolph Louis Becker 33 grandchildren five great grandchildren. The Monroe Council for the Handicapped will hold its regular meeting at Waterloo Public School this Thursday evening November 18 at 8 o clock. The November session covers Special Education updates Easter Seal campaign prep and Christmas party plans.
Lester J. Leingang 35 of Millstadt died Tuesday when his clothing tangled in a combine he operated to harvest soybeans on Kropp Road. Found by wife and 10 year old son at 3:30 p.m., death suspected by strangulation after a shaft incident. Survived by widow Eleanor and three children, plus his parents and siblings. Funeral at St. James Church Millstadt with burial at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery.
Delmar Valine of the St. Louis City Art Museum Board addressed the Columbia Rotary Club on November 10. He discussed securing a proper location and presented a documentary on items in the museum collection and their distribution in St. Louis. He showed film about the age and type of holdings, noting many are in transit and include antique engines and street cars. Cy Shipp led the program.
Nine men were inducted into service Monday November 15 according to Local Board 174. The inductees are Eric Pflasterer Edward Weinhof f Kenny H Gruber Terrence H Schiffendecker Eugene Wuertz Lawrence Hubble Elmer Baker Eugene Prange and Stanley Marquardt. Twenty seven were forwarded for physical examinations, next call December 2 for 18 registrants for exams. The group includes married men. On December 22 fifteen registrants are to be inducted, this call will not include married men.

The Columbia Cub Scouts of Pack 319 held their Friday meeting at the Columbia Public School Unit Building with Cubmaster Aloys Riebeling. Den 10 received the attendance award, and 50 boys earned 67 Achievement Awards including Bobcat, Wolf, Bear, and Lion badges with multiple Gold Silver arrow and year pins. Den mothers Mrs. Kenneth Divine and Mrs. Richard Seibel received pins, and the next pack meeting is scheduled for December 17.
Hecker Crossroads Corporation bought 38.7 acres bordering the Hecker village limits south of State Route 159. Cletus Hulling led the bidding on the Kreher Estate parcel sold for 36000. The firm plans in the Kaskaskia basin crossroads for industrial and subdivision development.
The Khoury League will host its 30th Anniversary Dinner Dance on Sunday February 20 at the Hotel Chase Khorassan Room. Members of World War I Auxilliary Post 1342 met at the American Legion Home in Waterloo on Monday November 1. Anna Mae Foster presided, Adele Riechmann examined cards, Alfrieda Joseph read the roll call, and Goldie Asselmeier led the opening prayer.
City officials met at 7:30 p.m. with Mayor Wilbert H. Kremmel presiding. Council directed an overall sanitary sewer study, notified unconnected property owners to connect within 30 days, advertised bids by Dec 6 for Bluff Side Road water work, and approved disposal of 2.13 acres west of the Missouri Pacific site for 325.00. Additional actions included sewer program review, a meeting notice with Southern Illinois Builders Association, roof repair bid award of 710.00 to H J Frierdich & Sons, and police training attendance. The session adjourned at 11:15 p.m.
Police and city officials from Columbia invited to a traffic safety forum today at Augustine's Restaurant. Illinois Director of Public Safety Ross Randolph will speak. the event, co sponsored by AAA Illinois, the Illinois Division, the Illinois Municipal League and the State Police, aims to foster cooperation on modern safety practices.

Delbert E. Weisenborn, 62, of Millstadt, drowned Saturday near Beils Lake east of the town. His body was recovered after neighbors alerted the fire department and an autopsy ruled drowning. He lived in Millstadt after retiring from a St. Louis store job, born July 29, 1903. Survived by wife Hilda Breit schaft, son Robert of Alvin Texas, sister Velma Volkert, and three grandchildren. Funeral services were held at Zion United Church of Christ Millstadt with Rev. Gerhard Friz officiating, Cremation Funeral Home listed.

Weisbacher says major construction finished picnic area sodded and cash balance 6623.77.
The National Farmers Organization of the 24th NFO Congressional District met at the St. Jacob Community Hall. Lester Gruenewald was elected president and Erwein Wein vice president. Walter E. Metter became secretary with Roy Schmidt as treasurer. Trustees named were Ivan Alment Melvin Yaun and William Ehlers. Directors for St. Clair and Madison counties were Ervin Doerr and Edwin Klenke. The annual Kiel Auditorium convention in St. Louis on December 1 and 2 will feature a visitors gallery and welcome business leaders clergy and farmers.
