The 15th annual Monroe County Music Festival at Waterloo High School gathers 181 band members and 315 chorus singers from four Monroe County high schools. Rehearsals run 9:00 am for massed band and 1:00 pm for massed chorus before the February 4 program. Directors from Columbia Valmeyer Waterloo and SS Peter Paul guide the event.

Farmer 77 Found Dead In Millstadt
The body of Herman H. Mehrtens, 77, was found in the kitchen of his rural Millstadt home at 11:30 a.m. Friday by his son. Authorities say heart attack likely. an inquest is pending. He is survived by three sons Raymond Alvin and Harold and two daughters Ardella Germann and Dorothy Wolfmeier. The body was taken to Strauss Funeral Home.

Mrs Olga Eichelmann Dies After Heart Attack
Mrs Olga Eichelmann wife of Erwin Eichelmann of near Floraville died Wednesday evening January 27 at St Clement's hospital Red Bud after a heart attack. She was born November 23 1905 near Columbia daughter of the late Philip and Katherine Wilde. Survived by husband a daughter Gustava Eckert three grandchildren five sisters and four brothers. Funeral services were held Saturday at 2 pm at St Pauls United Church of Christ Waterloo Rev Otto Basser officiated and interment was in Kolmer Memorial Cemetery.

At the 23rd annual National Rural Electric Cooperative Association convention in Miami Beach Florida Monroe County Electric Cooperative faces traffic relief needs. Plans include widening the J B intersection with State Route 3 and Jefferson Barracks Bridge Road and extending a four lane link to the canal bridge north of Dupo. State Highway Department funds are allocated for right of way relocation. Sunday evening congestion prompted signage and police direction efforts and local groups have pushed for proper turnoff markers.
