Funeral services for 81 year old Mrs Mary D Koch of Columbia were conducted at Zoar United Church of Christ New Hanover with burial in Kolmer Memorial Cemetery Waterloo. She died Saturday at Monroe County Nursing Home Waterloo after a year as patient. She was a Warren County Missouri native who lived many years in the Columbia Waterloo area. Alvin W. Harres 63 of 801 Pershing Blvd East St. Louis died on December 16 at St Marys Hospital East St. Louis after a brief illness. He had worked 33 years as a rate clerk for the Missouri Pacific Railroad retiring five years ago. He lived in East St. Louis 12 years and is survived by his sister Mrs Charles Frey who lived with him. He was at Holton Mortuary until 10 am Monday and was taken to St Paul United Church of Christ Columbia for services at 2 pm. Burial followed in St Paul Cemetery Columbia.

Awards Presented At Cub Scout Meeting Pack 319
Cub Scout Pack 319 in Columbia held a December meeting in the Columbia Public School Unit Building with large attendance. 48 Achievement Awards were given to 34 boys including Wolf, Bear, Lion badges and Webelos, with several boys advancing to Boy Scouts and den chief recognitions. Mrs Sylvester Kohlmeier of Waterloo was named 1966 Heart Fund Chairman for Monroe County with Mrs Dorothy Eppinger of Columbia as treasurer. The 1966 drive centers on Heart Sunday February 20 as volunteers educate and seek contributions to fight heart disease. City Cancels King’s Sanitation Contract for Refuse Service
The City Council cancelled its contract with King's Sanitation Service over unsatisfactory collections and contract stipulations. Modern Sanitation Service will be used temporarily while negotiations proceed as a new agreement is pursued. The council also discussed Bluff Side Road water extensions with one bid at 19,252.75, withheld action until January 3. An ordinance raised the Garbage and Refuse Tax to 14 percent, Edwin Schoening was approved as relief operator, and snow tires were ordered for police cars.

Members of the American Legion 22nd District entertained veterans at Alton State Hospital on Sunday December 19. Posts and Auxiliaries from Belleville Edwardsville Alhambra Maryville Alton Fosterburg Godfrey Highland Waterloo Mascoutah Millstadt Columbia and Madison Bond County contributed 100 articles each packed into 100 bags with gifts such as apples cookies candy socks and handkerchiefs. Veterans also received a sweater and cigarettes funded by post donations. The Alton Home Extension Kitchen Band provided entertainment and Columbia attendees included Commander Harvey Büttner Auxiliary President Alma Rudolph Anna Lefholz Minnie Ritter and Helen Büttner.
