The State Electoral Board released official results from the November 8 election. United States Senator Charles Percy led with 2,100,449 votes, followed by Paul H. Douglas. Adlai Stevenson III tops State Treasurer, Ray Page wins Supt. of Public Instruction, and amendments to the Banking Act and Revenue Article were decided with varying majorities. County Officers re election amendment failed.

Bethany Methodist Church in Monroe County will relocate to a temporary downtown site in Columbia this Sunday led by Dr. Vernie Barnett as guest preacher. The move, from the parsonage basement to West Kant near Main Street in the William Vogt Building, aims to provide more room for worship and Sunday School. The 9:30 a.m. service will be followed by Sunday School at 10:30 a.m. with welcome extended to local friends.

Garage Fire At Walter Naumann Home
A garage fire at Walter Naumann's home Friday morning caused about 750 in damage to the building and contents. Naumann started a fire in a Colonial wood stove in the garage and, after going inside, flames erupted in the garage possibly from a minor stove explosion. He used the stove to heat the workshop during winter for his handiwork since retirement. The cause of the explosion could not be explained.

German Night Planned By Academy of Arts and Science

Arthur Wink and Leo Weilbacher outlined hosts and guests including the German Consul General, Columbia mayor, and St Louis dignitaries. Memorial Hospital hikes room rates across all sections
Memorial Hospital raised daily room charges effective December 1 with increases of five dollars for medical surgical and maternity beds and three dollars for all beds in the pediatrics unit. Private rooms will cost 32 dollars daily, two bed rooms 26, four bed modified rooms 24, and regular four bed rooms 11. Ancillary services remain unchanged.

In Monroe County Circuit Court a jury awarded Virginia Kessler 5500 and Patrick Whitney 400 after a March 13 1965 collision on J B Bridge Road. The suit named Ronald Wayland as defendant and was part of a two trial docket with another accident case on Monday still in progress.

City Council Bumps Water Tap-In Fees and Park Speed Limit

Four young men John Roger Poole Jack Irving Michael Bartnick and Robert Akin are charged with stealing a 1965 Thunderbird. A complaint by State Trooper Gene Mehrtens says they were caught Friday while trying to steal a tire at Alfred Berner’s junk yard south of Waterloo and led to a clubhouse where more stolen property was found. Bond is set at 5000 each and more charges may follow per State's Attorney Floyd Crowder.
