A third series of fifty five suits was filed in Monroe County Circuit Court on August 16 1965 to collect delinquent personal property taxes for 1961 1962 and 1963 plus accrued interest. Floyd E Crowder led the action with input from Sheriff Ralph C Volkert per a County Board resolution. $8,774.22 in taxes interest and costs have been collected from earlier series. remaining judgments will prompt sheriff sale and wage garnishment to recover the balance.

Delmar Valine Named Executive Secretary for Transport Museum

Emilio Bassy of Columbia High School studies radiation biology at the 1965 Summer Institute on Radiation Biology at the University of Wyoming. The program ends August 20 and provides each of 20 participants with $1,200 worth of radiation detection equipment from the Atomic Energy Commission. This marks his sixth NSF fellowship in eight summers, with prior fellowships at the University of California Purdue Brown University and two years at the University of Missouri. He is the sole Illinois participant.

Illinois extends plate number reassignment window to September
Secretary of State Paul Powell notes the General Assembly shifted the reassignment period to September 1 through September 30 to retain current plate numbers with no extra fee. Applications for 1966 motor vehicle registrations will be available around August 27, 1965 through dealers banks and other outlets. Dupo Man Found Shot To Death
Raymond Harold Smitt a 28 year old resident of 1227 Columbia Road Dupo was found dead in his bedroom from a gunshot. A .410 shotgun lay nearby as deputies investigate with an inquest pending. He was an Army veteran previously employed by Monsanto in East St Louis efforts continue to confirm cause and arrange funeral services from Cashner Funeral Home in Dupo. David R. Bishop 76 DIes in Red Bud after stroke
David R. Bishop of Waterloo died Tuesday at St. Clement’s Hospital after a stroke illness. He was 76, retired from International Shoe Co. in St Louis, and served as a Waterloo school crossing guard until health failed. Survivors include his wife Esther, two sisters, five brothers, a stepson and three grandchildren. funeral Friday at St Paul United Church of Christ. He was WWI veteran and member of the Waterloo American Legion Post. Burial in Kolmer Memorial Cemetery. Born September 6, 1888 in California Missouri.

The Waterloo Sportsman Club annal picnic will be held on the club grounds near Burksville Station on Saturday and Sunday August 21 and 22. Barbecued pork steaks begin at 6:00 p m each evening. 1965 Monroe County Fair Attendance Tops 9000
Despite rain the 1965 Monroe County Fair drew about 9 000 attendees over four days. About 7 000 paid admission, 1 000 entered free before 4 pm daily, 200 workers, 200 with commercial exhibit passes, and the rest with competition passes. Swine and sheep entries climbed, beef and dairy cattle held steady, and 67 tractors competed in a pulling contest. Grand champions included sheepram Robert O Schmidt and others across beef dairy swine and small stock, with showmanship won by Moll Kleyer Caswell Grohmann.

Four Percent Enrollment Rise Expected in Monroe County
Monroe County schools anticipate a four percent increase this term led by Superintendent Norman W. Beck. About 4,400 students are expected, roughly 180 more than last fall, including five parochial schools. Five more teachers, total 147, will attend a training workshop August 30, as classes begin August 31 with limited curriculum changes and greater use of educational television and audio-visual devices.
