Registration appears in Monroe County Clarion and The Columbia Star as the event adds Sunday activities and extends hours from 4 p.m. to midnight Friday and Saturday July 22 23 and 11 p.m. Sunday July 24 with pre festival trips to Herrmann Missouri and a Busch Memorial Stadium game among other events.

New County Office Holders To Get Pay Increase

Eugene Luhr Co Wins New Athens Levee Bid
Colonel James B. Meanor Jr announces opening of bids in the St. Louis district for a levee pumping station and related work at New Athens. Eugene Luhr Co of Columbia submitted the apparent bid of 1 304 913.25 for one mile of earth levee two pumping stations and sewers with completion in 300 calendar days. The project aims to protect New Athens from Kaskaskia River floods and began in 1965 with completion slated for June 1967. Bond Issue For School Building Program Passes Almost Four To One
Voters in Columbia Community Unit District No. 4 approved the school building program by nearly four to one. A total of 1192 ballots were cast with 29 spoiled. Proposition one allows additions to two existing schools with 868 yes and 288 no. Proposition two authorizes a 30 000 annual tax. 806 yes and 323 no. The tax rate is expected to range from 7e to 39c per 100 assessed valuation.
