During a heavy German raid in Lorraine American aviators shot down three enemy planes and drove off several more with no American losses. The report notes twelve American aviation fatalities at home from April 25 to May and confirms American forces in Lorraine after the engagement.
A Cottswool buck fleece weighing nineteen pounds was bought by Louis Barker from Windell Church. The producer earned about $12.60 for the remarkable fleece, which Maury County hails as a county and regional record challenging other districts to surpass.

Washington May 15 The first air plane mail service is scheduled to run between Washington and New York with a daily round trip. Only first class mail will be carried at first and Army aviators will serve as carriers until the system is fully established.

A Maury County family is shattered by a California double tragedy as John A. McCollum, about 60, kills his daughter Annie, 14 or 16, before taking his own life. His wife, recently ill, is reported in a sanatorium. Neighbors link the act to despondency over health. The McCollums had moved west seeking relief from troubles. Mrs. McCollum hailed from Carter's Creek Maury County.
Contributions to the Red Cross sale must be delivered to Sam Wiley at McCain by Saturday morning for the event starting at 2 o'clock. Houston Maxwell drove Mrs. Bellah Mckerd's ponies to Columbia for display, drawing attention. Many residents from Columbia and surrounding areas plan to attend the auction led by Pol P. Moore.
