Heavy rains flood the Piave river, washing away bridges and severing Austrian detachments from supplies. Italian artillery and Allied airmen harry the trapped Austrians on the west bank while Rome reports a shift in momentum along the Piave line.
The War Department released a casualty list of 73 names on June 20. Among them 17 were killed in action, with mechanic Jim Arnold of Hell Buckle among the dead and corporal J. Bennett of Jacksonville, Florida severely wounded. Clarence L. Massey of Columbus, Ga. is now listed as 26 missing in action.
United Press from Washington reports that Italian defenses against Austria are advancing optimism. American officers foresee a turning point this year as front reports come in distinctly encouraging.

Mrs. Etta Mayes, 54, wife of the late T. J. Mayes, died Wednesday afternoon at her Water Valley home after months battling heart trouble.
