The board of education Friday night empowered Superintendent Harris to act on renting additional room due to crowding. Miss Emma McAfee resigned from sixth grade and Miss Ragenia Gay of Mount Pleasant was elected to the vacancy. McAfee moves to Louisiana. Gay praised as a strong faculty member at Howard Institute. A committee was formed to study acquiring adjoining property near the Athenaeum and report back with plans for new buildings.
June 11 report notes Tennessee State Fair commissioners seek bids to resurface the obsolete race track, add concrete steps and a tunnel, install plumbing, and perform general repairs at the fair grounds. Secretary Russ Wurm’s office has details and bids are due Thursday. The project aims to restore the track to its former condition, rebuild the lower grandstand with concrete, replace old steps, and add sanitary plumbing features.
The Hay Long School at Mt Pleasant will hold commencement exercises on Friday afternoon June 24. The program includes opening address by J. M. Phagas, music by Jennye Coleburnie, readings by Tommye Sutton and Mary Anderson, an address by Rev. J. D. Wallace, unveiling of pennant by Janye Dorris, Cude Ricketts, a duet by Minnie y Lee Powers and Elsie Young, a paper by T. B. Johnson, and a solo by Madge Young.
Two special Zion church services led by Rev. D B Gregory with Rev. E H Gregory assisting drew about 400 attendees. Eleven professions of faith and two by letter were reported with eight to ten more to follow. The closing night crowd filled the gallery with many Black attendees echoing antebellum scenes.

A full house attended the annual children s day exercises at First Cumberland Presbyterian Church. Committee members Bessie Biltington Alberta Wilsford and Aileen Overton presented an excellent program with junior choir, Sunday school selections, and recitations including The Flower Lesson and Hosanna. Beasley Lee Billington praised the board s work with childen s day and noted twenty five years of achievements of mission Sunday schools. Palm filled platform and flowered decor enlivened the hour as the audience enjoyed song and recitation, ending in a memorable hour.
In Fulton Kentucky Ed Moss former L N railroad engineer shot and killed W Drinkard after Drinkard attacked with a knife Moss had been in a bedroom dispute with Drinks wife Moss drew his pistol and killed Drinkard instantly in a confrontation at Fulton.
Farmers began cutting rye and barley as W O Witherspoon reports a mare gave birth to twin colts, while a mare and colt suffer losses. The severe winter reduced pasturage, impacting livestock and crop yields. overall output is not yet clear.

On the Columbia pike near Mt Pleasant Andrew West was seriously hurt after a confrontation with Will Owen who commanded phosphate workers. Owen fired a pistol wounding West after West advanced with a knife. West found with two large knives. Owen surrendered to the deputy sheriff and was to await bond. The case awaits grand jury action.
