The clerk urges owners to secure 1921 auto license tags before penalties. In Maury County more than 1,400 autos exist but only 850 tag holders. 77 licenses issued. Wheel tax collection will start early February with 80.48 tax rate due to road-law repeal limits. owners should prepare to pay when books open. Parker says Southern farmers are the most discontented among people.
Governor Parker of Louisiana told the Southern tariff congress in Atlanta that American farmers face unfair direct competition from foreign agricultural labor, risking bankruptcy without protective tariffs. He said farmers in the South are the most unsettled group and urged action to shield them from global rivals.
Two local Boy Scout patrol members will be stationed each Monday afternoon from 2 to 4 to supervise the Andrews-shoo grounds. The aim is to prevent damage to playground equipment and aid children during play. Scouts in uniform will also assist Sunday afternoons to oversee games and protect property, highlighting the scouts' value to the community.

The Maury County marriage records show a sharp drop this month, with only twenty three unions recorded by County Court Clerk Lipscomb so far, compared with forty three in January 1920. The piece notes Cupid’s aim may yet improve before month end.

District commissioners to be chosen April and August, earning about 150 dollars each. Road tax funds stay in each district, wagon duty ends after next year, five day work or ten dollar pay in lieu. Auto taxes go to the trustee. district commissioners oversee collection. County delegation plans to push identical measure in the house.
Secretary of the Navy Josephus Daniels urged United States leaders to pursue international disarmament to avert a new arms race. He warned the only path to stop endless spending on weapons is a global agreement, stressing the peril of ongoing naval armament.
A called meeting of the Columbia Retail Credit Association is set for 7 30 PM to finalize arrangements for the Pay Week from February 1 to February 8. Members should bring credit books to discuss ratings and new customers, and pay 1920 dues of 6.00 to fund the campaign.

The Rutherford Creek Theta bridge on the Theta pike is open to traffic after repairs. The engineer in charge says it is safe with further work not hindering traffic. Road Superintendent Wilkes expects the bridge to last two to three years, possibly longer with no extraordinary demand. Completion of the Jackson highway may reduce traffic over this bridge. The supports are strengthened and new joints installed. county funds for full repairs remain tied to future appropriation.
