Cap Walker a white man claiming Kentucky origins was arrested by Officer Gond on charges of obtaining money under false pretenses. He befriended residents in Bawden Valley before Christmas, borrowed money and valuables, then vanished toward Nashville. Constable Good tracked him down and he was bound over to the Circuit Court after refusing to make a statement.
About forty Erin residents marched to the Maldway saloon armed with hammers and broke barrels, emptied whiskey from about 100 gallons, and knocked the front door down. A. J. Madden and H. Frost were detained at the court-house steps. frost faced disputes over saloon legality as a supreme court ruling questioned the saloon act's constitutionality.

Nashville Dec 26 Judge Sam Holding wired Gov McMillin urging a 200 reward for the arrest and conviction of Elihu Wisdom, the man who killed Rev A J Brooks in Maury county days ago. Wisdom fled and is believed to be hiding in Maury or Gilva county. He is described as a white man about 5 feet 6 inches, with blue eyes, mustache and hair, and a right complexion.
Officers for the ensuing year were installed at Masonic Temple by Past Grand Master J. T. Williamson and P. H. P. Wm. Smith. Installing bodies included Columbia Lodge No 1, Fay ette Chapter No 4, with names such as Beene Smith J. Mirucker J. W. Teel Gros and others, plus trustees for Jackson College Lafayette Charter No A and Ed wards H P J. T. Williamson.
Joshua Williams a Mt Pleasant boy spend ing the day with relatives at Powderly a Birmingham suburb was shot and killed by Arthur Perry a Negro Perry walked from a store doorway and fired three times into a crowd wounding Williams in the breast Willis Williams father of the boy sentiments expressed by W T Williams of the Company.
From Lynchburg Neva reports a sensational affray Christmas night involving Representative Samuel B Motlow, representative for Lincoln Bedford and Moore counties, after a dispute near a saloon. The shooting occurred as both men walked away, witnesses are unavailable and the legislature session was disrupted.
Special to the Herald reports the sudden death of David Shafer a famed turfman and owner of Tarminus found in bed at the Hanford House in Gallatin today. The obituary notes his status in the county racing scene and hints at further details to follow.
A blaze at about 9 p m on December 26 damaged Anderson's barber shop on Main Street Franklin and rapidly spread to two neighboring houses including that of Boge J Wells grocer and confectioner. Firefighters fought the flames but the houses were destroyed.
Postmaster reports Congress approved a county wide rural delivery service in Maury County starting April. Full county coverage will begin gradually with routes established to serve every section, though some weeks are needed to organize. Louisville December 7 It is reported a mammoth fertilizer plant will be erected after the first of the year for finished fertilizer acid phosphates and sulfuric acid. Pyrites for acid will be imported from Spain. The plant would cover about fifteen acres and cost around 200000. It will create 80 to 400 jobs once the location is settled.
The home of Barnett Gracy two miles north of Lynnville was destroyed by fire this morning with the family barely escaping. Fire started under mysterious circumstances and there was no insurance. Loss estimated between 1000 and 3000 dollars. Gracy had previously lost his wife and daughter to the same illness, both buried in one grave. His Campbell’s Station connections are noted as he receives sympathy from many friends.
A flow of oil has been struck on Wolf River ten miles north of Jamestown Tennessee. The well reaches 700 feet in depth and experts estimate a daily yield of about 600 barrels. The find is praised as a major illumination akin to the best in Ivania, marking a significant local petroleum development.
