White Schools Open Term As County Plans Budget Fight
The county board of education ordered white elementary schools to open next Monday with most sites resuming, while larger schools at Cutloka Hampshire and South Kerr remain closed. Negro schools have started their term and attendance looks good. Salaries rise for teachers strain the budget as fuel costs surge, forcing higher taxes. Upcoming consolidation plans unite Lee's Corner Rally Hill and Mayesville. Hundreds of farm visitors are expected for the August farmers institute, prompting city lodging demands and an information bureau setup to assist guests.
