Negro Boys Die In Steel Rails Car Tragic North Yard Accident
Two unnamed negro boys aged about seven and twelve were found dead in a steel rails car in the North Yards. Train crews believe they hid between the rail end and car end while riding, were crushed when rails shifted, and died eight to ten days earlier. Brakeman detected a foul odor as workers passed. Car originated in Birmingham and was bound for Columbia to serve in the Jones lot in the North yards of the L and N at this place.

Officer E4 Green engaged in a struggle with Calvin Miller known as Sambo as they rode toward jail after arrest for drunken and disorderly conduct. Miller grabbed the officer and mace was used, with outside help arriving. Miller was fined ten dollars in City Court.
