In Schuylkill county the party enrollment shows 15 202 Republicans 15 067 Democrats and 1 821 Washingtonians. Roosevelt received 10 447 votes on the Washington ticket in the 1912 presidential election in this county.
The County School Directors met in Court Room No 2 to elect a County Superintendent for four years. W. W. Evans was reelected for the fifth term. Evans is regarded as an ideal superintendent with high private and public ideals and a record of pushing public schools to high standards.
On Tuesday afternoon Charles W. Derr was reelected Superintendent of Montour county schools and Mauser was reelected to supervise Northumberland county schools. The counties including Columbia believe in holding on to a good man once found.
Fire at the D L and W freight station was reported around three the Saturday morning. The blaze caused extensive damage before crews could control it. Most items saved were trunks and suitcases left in the same room. Temporary quarters were set up for the freight department and telegraph office while plans for modern buildings to handle the company’s large local business are considered.
Josiah Heacock, a prominent Millville resident and Civil War veteran, died at his home Wednesday afternoon from pneumonia. He is survived by his widow and two daughters.
Mr. B. F. Sharpless of Centre street was taken to Philadelphia on Tuesday by his son Arthur for an operation. He has been in poor health for some time, and friends hope he returns much improved in health.
H J Purser on East street had his net painted last week and Charles K Taylor on East street is repainting his house. Freas Shoemaker of Buckhorn holds the contract for the work.
Howard Obl of Fair View suffered a stroke at his home Sunday morning. His condition was serious at first but improved over the past two days.
Samuel Lutz bought a new Ford touring car. Alex Knouse of Benton did business in town on Monday. Wesley Morris of Greenwood visited the county seat Monday. Sheriff Wait of Montour County attended Columbia County Court Tuesday.
T. J. Ohl of Pittsburgh visits his ill brother 8. H. Ohl for several days while James Magee 2nd returns from a business trip to Philadelphia and New York.
After two days in court John Kalanoski pleaded guilty to stealing the Ohl horse and admitted involvement in the Ohl and Sitler horse thefts. He implicated Paul Vayner and Joe Wysga, detailing a pattern of planning and joint thefts. Vayner was to be involved in disposing of the horses. Kalanoski was sentenced to pay costs, a $500 fine, and about 17 years total in prison across the two cases.
M. J. Phillips of Muncy Valley spent Monday evening and part of Tuesday in town while another visitor from Saturday undertook a business trip to the county seat.
William Rice relocated last week from the corner of Iron Street and Pine Avenue to a site on Third Street near Center.
Mrs. John J. Lydon of Espy was taken to Philadelphia on Tuesday for an operation. Editor Randel of the News Item spent Tuesday afternoon in town attending the Director's convention. David Throne left town Tuesday for Baltimore to accept a sales position with a large wholesale house.
Mrs L N Moyer had a narrow escape from serious burns while burning brush at her West Main Street home on Saturday. Fire department notes she acted quickly to control flames and prevent injury during the blaze.
Misses Mary and Martha Clark leave Saturday for Harrisburg to spend the summer at the estate of the late R. C. Neal, remaining at the country home during the season.

John V. Logan a former Riocurg resident and longtime Farmer's National Bank employee died in Harrisburg Monday afternoon from a paralysis stroke suffered Saturday. He was buried from his son's home and was well known in the community.

Alumni Association of Fish ing Creek Township High School held its fourth annual banquet at St James church on Saturday evening May 2. North Berwick High School prepares for Commencement next week with the largest graduating class in its history. Eighth graders from Cleveland and Catawiesa township schools graduated together at Esther Furnace church. Roaring Creek High School Commencement drew large crowds at Kulp Methodist church. Mifflin Township High School graduated in Reformed church. Espy High School Commencement was held in Odd Fellows Hall. Rupert Methodist pastor Rev Martin spoke to Montour Township High School graduates. Mt Pleasant township eighth grade graduated in Canby Lutheran church. fourteen students, nine boys and five girls, each giving a short program.
