Pennsylvania State Grange Faces Decline and Reform Call
The Pennsylvania State Grange is dissolving rapidly as leaders admit urgent rehabilitation is needed. Membership has fallen from about 65 000 to 12 000 over ten years and rural units outside Bradford Crawford Tioga and Susquehanna counties are weak. The group suffered after leaders allied with Harrisburg politicians for family favors, diminishing its usefulness. Rebuilding requires independent leaders untainted by political favors to restore its role for farmers and families.
