UPI reports a White House commission on missing Americans in Vietnam returned from Hanoi and Vientiane with Hanoi pledging to turn over two more sets of remains. Leonard Woodcock said officials confirmed Tucker Gouggleman’s death and promised remains of a serviceman from a 1973 crash. The group aims to brief President Carter and push for broader Southeast Asia reconciliation.
Indira Gandhi announced her resignation today accepting a crushing election defeat. She urged unity, wished the new government success, and vowed to stay as caretaker until the opposition forms its regime. The Janata coalition aims to fill the power vacuum as Congress faces a 30 year rule end.

The American Civil Liberties Union filed a federal suit in Logan alleging the Mormon Church run seminary courses taught during school hours are sectarian and unconstitutional. The complaint seeks to end school support and credit for released time Bible classes and argues the program creates unlawful church state entanglements.
