Woodward Junior High opens in new Dixie building
Students have moved to the south St. George facility as Woodward Junior High opens in the new Dixie College complex. Work highlighted plumbing heating and electrical finish issues but officials expect classes to resume January 3. The old campus will revert to church use with plans to repurpose remaining structures as a cultural center or workshops.

Statehood Day program set in St. George
St George hosts the Utah Statehood Day celebration with a two month lecture series led by Utah State University and the Utah Historical Society funded by the National Endowment for the Humanities. Dr. Leonard Arrington will deliver the keynote address in the Tabernacle titled Brigham Young The First Governor's Impact on Utah's Dixie.

Iron County approves county landfill and related measures
The Iron County Commission approved establishing a county landfill lease with Utah International and a disposal contract with D&O Sanitation. It also set up a special service area in eastern Iron County, ordered publication, and scheduled a Dec 31 special meeting to approve 76 outstanding bills. The project starts Jan 1 1977 and may affect Cedar City garbage handling.
