Washington Tuesday The Commerce Department reported a 0.2 percent drop in the Index of Leading Indicators for July marking a third straight decline the longest stretch since 1974 75. Analysts warned of a slower growth trend with several components down while inflation concerns rose as the Federal Reserve raised the discount rate to 5 74 percent and banks lifted prime rates to 7 percent.

Stake Center Groundbreaking set for St George Utah
Groundbreaking ceremonies for a new stake center of the SS George Stake of the LDS Church are set for 7 p m Wednesday at 400 North Bluff Street. LDS officials and contractors will attend. MGM Construction Co was awarded the general contract with a base bid of 951000 dollars. The project total is 1141000 dollars including property furnishings and design fees. Local members will fund 30 percent of the cost. The center will house stake offices two ward offices and teaching stations and include an official size basketball court to double as a cultural center and meeting space.
