Colfax Community Resource Center aids families with holiday meals
The Colfax Community Resource Center plans 11 holiday dinners for local families in need and relocation to the Colfax Library in January. Led by Cyndy Bigbee the center links residents to programs offering basic needs and services while expanding ongoing supports such as counseling, parenting classes and budgeting guidance from partners like Sierra Vista Youth Center and Seniors First.

Colfax High Chamber Choir Aims for Hawaii Return
For 12 years Colfax High School choir director Todd Wilkinson has built a top rated ensemble from untrained teens. Last year the Chamber Choir won first at Heritage Music Festival in Honolulu. This year the group seeks funds to compete in Anaheim or San Diego with several holiday performances planned in November and December to support the trip.

Firefighters recall unprecedented Southern California blaze
Northern California crews led by Colfax Alta battalion chief Jeff Brand were sent to Riverside to assist. Brand said the wind event required prepositioned engines from Foresthill Alta Loma Rica and Nevada City. The team was diverted to a new fire north of Six Flags Magic Mountain near the Los Angeles Basin.

CHS Student Dustin Blackwell Named National Hispanic Scholar
Colfax High School senior Dustin Blackwell, a Weimar resident, has been named a National Hispanic Recognition Program scholar. The NHRP selects the top two percent of Hispanic test takers from the PSAT pool. 4,300 of 124,000 were identified, with 3,300 earning scholar or honorable mention status. Teachers praise him and CHS counselor Carol McPherson notes his strength and peer counseling role.
