Elvira Bianchi runs The Pastime Club in downtown Colfax after the death of her husband Harry Bianchi on July 15, 2003. The century-old building dates to the 1860s and still reflects early Colfax construction. She begins each day by opening the front doors and, in winter, using a wood stove to warm the bar.

Chimney Fire Strikes Colfax Building Draws Multi-Agency Help
A chimney fire at a Colfax building drew multiple agencies after smoke billowed high. Firefighters from CDF Station 30, Placer Hills, Alta, and Peardale fought a blocked roof access race to contain the blaze. A ladder truck from Auburn extended to the roof as crews checked for spread into walls and cleared the attic. Main Street was closed briefly while they searched for the fire origin, with residents left anxious until containment was confirmed.

NID Revises Long Ravine Concession Contracts At Rollins
Nevada Irrigation District directors on February 11 restructured the four Rollins Reservoir concession leases. The master lease with Russ Engelstad was terminated while he will sublease to his children at Greenhorn, Peninsula and Orchard Springs campgrounds. An interim 45 day stay allows contract negotiation. Engelstad exits day to day ops after years of service, citing personal losses. The Peninsula concession was reassigned from Ken and Debra Martin to Gary and Chris Unitt, new Rollins stewards seeking to make Peninsula Resort a premier camping and boating hub.
