Morning Glory Becomes a Real Nuisance in Coast Area

Noxious Weeds Inspector J Towell tells Dorrigo Shire meeting that bindweed or morning glory spreads across the coast. The deep rooted weed reproduces from roots and seeds, making eradication difficult. deep ploughing and frequent cultivation to dry soil and surface roots are advised, with sodium chlorate spray for small areas.

Wedding in Nambucca Heads for Viva Henderson Nixon

The Presbyterian Church at Nambucca Heads hosted the wedding of Viva Nance Henderson to Cecil Nixon of St Ives England. Rev Clark officiated as bridesmaids in pastel marquetted dresses and attendants wore blue crepe. A reception followed at the School of Arts with a three tier wedding cake by Mrs Clarke Macksville and toasts before the couple planned to reside in Canberra.

Diggers Ball A Big Success At 1948 Event

About 450 dancers attended the Diggers Ball on Monday night with debutantes presented to Col. G. A. Patterson. Takings reached £120 as weather and music by Ace and Pullens boosted attendance. Eric Youngman MC’d, with support from Plunkett and McCarthy. Debutantes Miss Phyllis Robinson and others walked the hall with flower girls, while banners and palms framed simple but effective decorations. The Auxiliary prepared supper, praised by officials for a well run social that aided postwar normality.
