Edward Andrews 46, alias with a long list of convictions, was sentenced to three months gaol at Dorrigo Police Court on a vagrancy charge. He sought hospital care after approaching residents and claimed illness, later accused of impersonation and breaking and entering with 6s on him. He was taken to Dorrigan Hospital before police proceedings.
The Banana Growers' Co op Ltd report notes 1921 extra cases of bananas sent to Sydney market last week and 25 from Queensland among 15 685 cases received. Prices ranged 208 to 10s per cake with some ripe fruit cheaper. complaints about squirter bananas persist. Beans and peas prices remained high due to tight supply. beans 24s to 3s per bushel and early Wales up to 38s. Newcastle banana consignments reached 12 2 from Queensland, marking an overall 637 decline from the prior week.
Melbourne reports hedger supplies of bandins received last week but market shows little change for quality fruit. Small bananas and inferior fruit spike issues with rust and squirter damage. Department inspectors rejected 21 cases under common grading. Total arrivals reached 12 005 cases, up 257 from prior week with NSW 1 507 and Queensland 76. Adelaide faces continued light supplies and higher demand for colored bananas while pricing remains firm for good quality fruit. Rail 22 figures show NSW 2 291, Queensland 76, Melbourne 451.
