Sympathetic words for late Sergeant Sydney Smith were spoken at Coffs Harbour Police Court on Friday. Lawyers from the local and Grafton bars voiced deep respect and offered condolences to his widow and family, noting his devotion to duty and high esteem in the community.
The advertisement touts HEENZO COUGH REMEDY as safe for adults and children, economical, pleasant to take, and quick acting. A bottle costs 2 shillings and when diluted yields a pint of cough remedy for coughs colds croup bronchitis sore throats and influenza.
Timber awaiting shipment is being stacked on the beach area south of the jetty. When the current site on Orlando street is cleared, the timber will be moved to the waterfront creating a new look for approaches to the jetty.
The death of Sgt Smith at a young age deprives the force of a capable, conscientious, fair, and fearless officer. Sgt RK Wilson thanked the speakers for honoring the late sergeant and noted his sincere ambition to see justice carried out fairly.
Mr Bray lauded early settlers as the district’s backbone citing timber wealth railways and ports that built Coffs Harbour. He urged residents to preserve pioneer records and carry forward the spirit by working for a greater regional development under state and Commonwealth leadership.
