Farewell Purkisses Farewell Purkisses
A large gathering at the School of Arts in Coffs Harbour bid farewell to Sgt and Mrs Purkiss on the eve of their Kempsey departure. The Chamber of Commerce organized the event with tributes to Sgt Purkiss for his two years as officer in charge, his relief work during floods, and community efforts. Present were Inspector McEwan and numerous public and sporting representatives. Presents included a crystal tray and a floral posy plus an envelope. A. Gardiner also presented from the District Tennis Association and Coffs Tennis Club. The hall was decorated and refreshments served as vocal and instrumental numbers entertained attendees.
