Orchard controversy over clemency amid Haywood case echoes
SOISE Idaho March 31. Orchard, a 21 man self described Saxon, faces May 15 wedding as Judge Wood urges modified punishment. The case, tied to the Western Federation of Miners and the 1901-1908 labor conflict, centers on alleged plots and confessions. Critics say officials favored Orchard, while supporters cite promises of immunity and prior treatment in prison. The broader question remains whether Orchard aided or orchestrated a string of notorious acts linked to the union battles.
