Spence traveled to Brisbane by air to visit his son. R J Skinner and wife returned to Cobram from Sydney where they honeymooned. Mrs Shinnick holidays in Melbourne to attend her niece Margaret ONeil’s wedding to Gerry Ryan.
Scots Church Ladies' Guild hosted a pleasant social afternoon at the Sunday School Hall with about fifty ladies from other churches in attendance. Performances by Mrs L Brooks Mrs A Brentnall and Mrs Dunkley delighted guests and two sketches were recited. Tea by the guild ended the gathering followed by an evening lantern lecture noted as very interesting.
Cobram Reds defeated Strathmerton by 22 goals to 18 in a tightly fought preliminary final of the Murray Valley Basketball. The grand final bookings are set for Katamatite tomorrow with Cobram meeting Benalla to complete the double bill.
Cobram Football Club held a premises premiership dance at Mechanics Hall with players and supporters present to celebrate the season. Trophies and wallets were presented to players by Mr D Spence and other contributors, with awards for best and fairest, most useful, most consistent, and most improved junior. The event also recognized donors and noted thanks from the committee to volunteers, with a forthcoming footballers dinner at the Royal Victoria Hotel and committee thanks to helpers at the dance.
A letter from the Rail Commissioners stated the shire would not entertain a proposal to create a right of way along the edge of properties on Punt Road. After discussion, the secretary was tasked to investigate and report at the next meeting.
