Messrs Campbell and Co report strong turnout at Yarroweyah on Thursday for Mr J Houlihan. Prices top for tractors harvesters engines and stock with steers, heifers, mares and geldings selling well. Notable items include a 10/20 McCormick Deering Tractor at £149 and paddies, building removal, and various farm implements offered at solid prices.
Private A. Rose spent the weekend at home on leave. Mr M Stokes of Yarroweysh is elected unopposed as representative for the North West Riding of the Shire of Tungs mah following Dr Christie’s resignation. The Army minister lists Lieut J F McNamara Yarrawonga among gallantry awardees with the Military Cross. McNamara enlisted in 1940, served in Tobruk, and was wounded on 11 July.
Army Minister Mr Forde stated that married men up to 40 would be called up and possibly up to 45 if ancillary troops were needed. The existing bands 18 to 35 single 18 to 35 married and 35 to 45 single would continue until full war establishment is reached.
Miss Ma bel Jean Joss wed Mr Patrick Harford at St Bigid s Church Mathoura in a chalk white moss crepe gown trimmed with gui pure lace. The bride wore a pearls necklace and carried white hyacinths and carnations. Guests were entertained at the bride’s mother’s home after the ceremony.
