The Cobram service begins 7.30 p.m. on Sunday September 21, 1952 followed by Katamatite at 3.15 p.m. and Yarroweyah at 2 p.m. Rev A C Allinson preaches in Cobram. Mr D Guthrie presides at Yarroweyah.
At the September meeting Dr Alan Lawrence of Youatmite was unanimously chosen president for the next year. Retiring chair Dr W Lonie thanked the council and urged continued cooperation. New councillors Crs Batey and J F Browning welcomed along with congratulated returnees. The president's allowance was set at £100 with £30 contingency.
Finley defeats Berrigan 12 9 for nine point margin in a record crowd game. Deniliquin also strong, setting up a Tocumwal final this Saturday for premiership honours in the Murray League.
James Williams real estate agent reports selling for Dorminion Knitting Mills West Brunswick their Numurkah factory and residence with land at the vendor's reserve. The buyer is Numurkah townsman Mr J T Mosbey.
The Uphome-gum band urges public and parental support for the annual meeting on October 10 to discuss establishing a band hall and involve locals in the band project. Last week Mr Lack delivered uniforms for final fitting as the members prepare for the grand final in Tourwal this Saturday.
The Cobram District Hospital secretary wrote to the council meeting stating the management committee was perturbed by the council’s decision not to install a light in O Dwyer Avenue near the nurses’ home and requested reconsideration. Dr Jordan noted the current street lights give insufficient illumination near the nurses’ home and urged an additional light. he criticized the lack of action from the committee president. He moved that an application be made to the S E C to install the light in O Dwyer Avenue.
A colorful evening of Gilbert and Sullivan songs and scenes presented by D'Oyly Carte Company and J. C. Williams on Thetares stage at Mechanics' Cobram Monday September 22 at 8 p.m.
Younghusband Limited reports a strong Cobram Pig and Calf sale with good fat pig warding and stores. Bacon prices eased about 10 shillings from last market while porkers held firm. stores sold well though cheaper than last month. Quoted prices cover good to heavy bacon and various weights, with calves showing strong ranges for heavy and light categories.
The Cobram Baby Health Centre auxiliary thanks donors for money and roods given at a stall last Friday. An amount of £15 176 was raised. The next auxiliary meeting will be Friday, October 4, at the Mechanics Hall cloakroom, inviting mothers and others to attend.
The Cobram Barooga Club's Canadian foursomes Sunday event saw A Dixon and E Harden win with 69 nett. Associates' contest went to Mrs Dixon and Mrs Marxsen with 79 nett, with other results listed for multiple pairs and ladies' events. President’s Day next invites members for a 19 holes event. Club Championship results include Ken Grant as champion, E Harden as B Grade champ, and various cup winners.
September date to be fixed for a pantomime titled White and the Seven Dwarfs organised by Miss Walker in Strathmerton.
