Myrtle Hovendon wife of Godfrey and devoted mother of Pamela Tan and Baby died at Yarrawonga on August 29. Funeral notices and church services list Holy Communion at 8 am and Evensong at 7 pm at St Margaret's. Local denominations include Cobram and Strathmerton churches with service times noted.
At St Peter's Church Too rack Melbourne on Tuesday August 25 Mary Margaret Mulcahy of Cobram wed Norman Alexander Gilmour son of Cobram. Rev Father J Doherty officiated. The bride wore white embroidered organza and taffeta with a tulled veil. Attendants were Mary Cassidy and Barbara Pinnock. best man Geoffrey Johnson. A reception and dance followed at the New Alexandra East St Kilda.
In the absence of the president Mrs Johnson the August meeting of the Consolidated School Mothers' Club was chaired by Mrs Scott. The group authorized about 70 pounds of sporting material to equip the four houses Sheppard Shield inscribed and contested by Goodman Shadforth Jordan and Rose houses. The meeting approved school uniforms for girls and boys including grey tunics white blouses green check frocks green shorts grey trousers grey pullovers and blazers with grey shorts and shirts for summer. Methodist Sunday School children visited Cobram Hospital where the boys and girls handed violets and oranges to patients wishing them a quick recovery. A patient said the visit brought sun and spring to them and God bless them all.
