Obituary notes the passing at Cobram on August 22 of Catherine Mary Ritchie beloved wife of George Samuel mother to Ann Mona Nell Olive and Audrey and devoted Nana to Geoffrey and Raymond. Rest in peace.
The Scots Church Cobram hosts 11 am service, Naring at 3 pm, and Yarroweyah at 7 30 pm led by Rev. Neil Scott BA minister.
Melbourne hosts invite 10 to 14 year olds from city and suburbs for January 1954 country holidays. Boys January 4–17 and girls January 18–31. Selected children come from families unable to afford vacations. participation funded and supervised by Victorian Children's Holiday Organisation. Cobram Lawn Tennis Club reported a reduced bank overdraft by nearly £200 and £170 spent on court improvements at its annual meeting attended by about 35 members. President Mr W Buzza was unanimously re-elected with Mr Ron Wright as secretary and other officers chosen.
C D Gedye broke a hundred to claim the stroke handicap trophy at the Cobram Barooga links. B Grant and Miss Hutchinson won the mixed foursomes with a net 64. The report lists numerous scores for stroke handicaps and mixed pairs, and notes club officeholders, financials, and plans for the new season.
A Cobram reader criticizes proposed school uniforms and Education Week church services, arguing compulsory dress challenges Christian charity and individualism. The letter suggests uniforms impose regimentation and may burden families who struggle to pay, leaving some children stigmatized.
At Cobram Play Centre the resignation of J W Holland as treasurer was accepted. Mrs P M Weatherhead becomes secretary treasurer. For the year to 30 June 1953 revenue was £135 and expenditure £123 leaving £12. Term starts 1 September. vacancies remain for morning sessions. A working bee Saturday at 2 pm to add a swing and carry out repairs. Donations welcome via the Courier.
Numurkah RSL engages the RAAF dance band from Laverton to furnish music at the annual ball on Tuesday September 1. Promises an outstanding event with lively entertainment and local participation.
