Man Fined For Unregistered Cattle Brand at Tocumwal Court

At Tocumwal Court of Petty Sessions Victor Irvine pleaded guilty to using an unregistered brand on a calf. Sergeant Steele testified he saw the brand IV on the animal and Irvine claimed the mark was registered but cited confusion over NSW Victoria branding rules. The PM imposed a £10 fine with 20 days in default and gave Irvine one month to pay.

McEwen Calls Fourth Liberty Loan Goal at $125 Million

In a national broadcast on October 25 Wir J McEwen Melbourne urged Australians to back the Fourth Liberty Loan aiming to raise £125 million. He likened the campaign to military planning, stressing that money translates into equipment and faster victory. He urged every civilian to subscribe to the war bond.

Obituary Notice for Mrs Agnes McCormack of Cobram

Regret expressed at the death of Mrs Agnes McCormack wife of Mr P McCormack of Cobram following a short illness. Aged 51 she was the third daughter of the late Mr and Mrs W Sayers and resident of Cobram and Yarroweyah for thirty years. She supported the Cobram Agricultural Society and Yarroweyah Race Club. Burial was in Cobram Cemetery.

The death occurred early on Wednesday of Bridget Teresa O Dwyer aged 3rd year in Beveridge district native to that area. She was the wife of Mr J B O Dwyer and respected by all who knew her. The family resided in the Cobram district since 1915.

Stolen or unlawfully obtained sheep in transit at Tocumwal

James Victor Irvine faced charges at Tocumwal Court before Mr Stewart P M for possessing two sheep suspected of theft. Witnesses reported 21 sheep at Irvine’s yard with varying ear marks. Irvine claimed he cared for crippled and dying animals given by agents and railway staff. Other witnesses testified Irvine and two agents had handled crippled stock over years and that Melbourne agents would settle owner claims, with the railway common carrier responsible for transit.
