Obituary: William Russell Barooga settler leader dies aged 60
The oldest resident and oaiest settler of Barooga, Mr William Russell, died at Mooroopna Hospital on Saturday aged 60. He arrived in 1879 as Barooga Station worker, led timber clearing crews, may have grown Riverina’s first wheat, and supervised Barooga irrigation channels. Remains interred at Barooga Cemetery with burial service led by Canon Williamson.
