On Wednesday last Cobram courts were formally opened by Mr J Reucliffe in the absence of the president and secretary. An American Mixed Doubles event was played, rain earlier in the district was welcome, rainfall in Cobram reached 87 points with October total at 367 points, aiding pasture and fodder supplies.

Fire Destroys Part of Residence After Lamp Incident
Mr and Mrs N S Pist were startled by an explosion which sparked a blaze in a badly damaged part of their home. A bucket brigade formed and fought the flames, saving the property with about £150 in damage. An insurance adjudicator praised the rescue as the best save he had seen. It’s suggested kerosene may have ignited after the lamp wick drew liquid downward. Miss Eileen O’Kave, telephonist at the local post office, has resigned and was thanked by the Tennis Club before leaving for Wangaratta.
