Railway Sleepers Purchases Shrink and Move to Authorized Depots

Over the past eighteen months the New South Wales Railway Department bought unusually large quantities of sleepers across the state for a major re sleepering program. Now purchases will be tested for future needs at about 116000 monthly, five percent above normal but thirty five percent lower than earlier peak. Sleeper cutters are warned that future inspections or purchases will only occur at authorised depots and from holders of new identity cards issued after October 1. Applications should go to the timber inspector of the district.
