The Bishop of Wangaratta Right Reverend T. M. Armour M A Th will visit Cobram on Wednesday to administer the Sacred Rite of Confirmation at 8 p m in St Margaret s Church of England All are welcome to attend this service.
Mooroopna Hospital funds gain from Cobram Renue efforts after a Hawaiian event. The Younger Set earned praise for yearlong support of local causes. On October 28 they will host a Mechanics Hall dance to aid their funds for future charitable work.
Dr Kennedy undergoes a serious operation at Mount St. Evans Hospital in Melbourne. Reverend Hatswell, injured earlier, visits Berrigan and receives a warm welcome. Joy Shepard and Hudson wedding held at Scots Church Melbourne. Mrs Gibbs in Mooroopna Hospital recovering. Mrs Randall visits Mr and Mrs O’Rielly.
More than forty players and officials gathered at the Cobram club’s smoke social held at the Fire Brigade on Saturday. President Scott led the toast and thanked attendees, with tributes to four former players Parker Goodman Paul Bell Barney Croucher and Des Linehan who paid the supreme sacrifice in the war. Dr M D O Dwyer of the Murray League spoke on umpire shortages and urged clubs to control enthusiastic supporters amid a spirit of continued cooperation for the club’s future.
The fourth annual inter-school meeting saw Barooga excel with the Scott Cup won by Barooga ahead of Boomanoomana, Barooga also took the Lethbridge Shield and Teams Cup, while Boomanoomana claimed the Airlie Cup. Barooga achieved seven firsts and one third in eight events, with eight records broken across boys and girls events.
At the Barooga and Cobram Citrus Growers Branch annual meeting office bearers were elected. President P. Rossiter. vice presidents M. Scott A. Quick A. P. Brentnall. secretary H. A. Backhouse. auditor J. Fowles. committee J. McCluskey C. Scott I. Johnson W. Quick D. Guthrie. A Field Day dinner is planned for December 24 with reminders to contact the secretary before November 10.
Thomas Charles Eade, 42, railway worker from Rockwaves Shepparton, pleaded guilty to horse stealing. Gen. Sessions judge Bitewell released him on a 20 pound bond for good behaviour after noting his illiteracy and large family. The judge described the act as an indiscretion rather than a criminal pattern, citing character evidence from First Constable F E McLarty.

Edna Linda Martha Saltmarsh aged 31 of Lalaly was released from the Long Bay women’s reformatory after an August acquittal on a murder charge regarding her infant daughter Anna belle. The Minister for Justice and the Governor approved the release following medical reports.
The Cobram Sub-branch R.S.L. held the annual Diggers Ball attracting dancers from Cobram, Yarrawonga, Berrigan, Numurkah, Tocumwal, Strathmerton, Katamatite and Barooga. The hall featured allied flags and a Red Cross ceiling display. Jack Gervasoni's Rhythm Band played while Vern Wyatt served as master of ceremonies.
Organising Secretary G V Lawrence left Melbourne to attend Murray Bridge on October 14 and Barmera on October 16 for regional meetings of the Murray Valley Development League. Rutherglen Shire Council voted October 4 to join after hearing Lawrence advocate the League’s value in coordinating regional planning across river regions.
