At Cobram Court of Petty Sessions on Wednesday before Mr G S Catlow P M Robert B Smith was fined 1 pound and jailed three days with 6 shillings 6 pence costs for being drunk and disorderly He also faced 3 pounds fine and 21 days imprisonment for insulting words to a policeman William Barker appeared for drunk and disorderly and was convicted discharged and ordered to pay 6 shillings 6 pence costs Constable Mc Cleary prosecuted

At Kyabram annual meeting the association decided to buy a timing machine for fire brigade demos. Rochester had a new track and visiting teams were promised good conditions. Obituary of William J. Gorman prominent Berrigan business leader

William J. Gorman of W. J. Gorman Pty Ltd died at Yarra-Wonga last week after a long illness. A founder of local commerce he built the large Yarra-Wonga store and later ran operations in Oaklands. A cautious, honest administrator, he engaged in public affairs and supported many old customers, leaving Mrs. Gorman in mourning. His brother Thomas J. Gorman had died days earlier.

Presbytery Holds Meeting in Cobram and Plans Iona Convention

The Cobram Presbyterian Church hosted the presbytery on October 6 with Rev. L. H. Rye presiding. Arrangements were finalized for the Iona Convention in Shepparton featuring Dr. George MacLeod and participation by Goulburn Valley Bendigo Beechworth and Seymour presbyteries. The convention opens October 19 with a public communion in Scot's Church and includes an Iowa film screening and public meetings October 21. A report on the Sydney General Assembly was given by press delegates Rev. J. A Finlay and R. G. Mitchell. A youth work meeting is set for November 23 in Shepparton with delegates from PGF and PY MF. A committee will study elder and youth preacher training due to minister shortages. The retiring superintendent T. Morris was thanked. An evening Cobram Charge visitation occurred, and Rev. Lawson preached on Ephesians 5 14. The next presbytery meeting is December 14 in Scot's Church Shepparton.
