Red Gum Forests Flooding Plan Discussed At Council

Dr O Dwyer told the council that water from the Hume Reservoir could be used to irrigate Red Gum forests along the Murray River. The Forests Commission and the NSW Forestry Commission plan an experimental flooding project once flood waters recede, with aerial and ground surveys underway and a joint report to the River Murray Commission.

Council Property Sold to Miss Norah Mee Pertland

The Shire sold a house and land on councillors recommendation after inspection during a lunch adjournment on Monday. Dr Mulquiney and Dr Kelly urged plans by a certified architect, noting rents from officer properties would offset loan costs and save ratepayers money. Obituary of longtime Mooroopna district resident Mr Stokes

The Mooroopna district mourns the death of 73 year old Mr Stokes at his home on Sunday November 4. A Newstead arrival with family he farmed land near Ya and Strathmerton from 1903 until death, aided Mooroopna hospital fundraising, and was well regarded. His burial took place Tuesday in the Numurkah cemetery’s Catholic section. He leaves a widow and family of two sons Michael Jane Peter A and two daughters.

Mrs P Ashe Farewelled At Yarroweyah Church

A pleasant evening of games and competitions at Yarroweyah Presbyterian Church bid farewell to Mrs P Ashe who leaves the district to join her husband in Casino New South Wales. She served the church ladies guild and State school during six years here while her husband was on active service. Mr E Fabb presented a cheque to the guest who thanked the gathering and the ladies served supper.

£450 Stolen: Portion Recovered

Police in Shepparton East investigated a theft of £450 from a market gardener's home. Two Albanian brothers, aged 19 and 20, face summons for housebreaking and stealing after part of the money and tobacco were recovered in a spot near the hut. a bottle with money was also found.

Judging of Pasture Competitions at Cobram District Show

The Cobram and District Agricultural Society with the Water Commission ran pasture judging this week led by judge G. D. Duncan. Entries came from Strathmerton and Katamatite for lucerne rye grass plots and water use control, with results pending the lucerne decision and prizes announced later.
