Canon Williamson argued for retaining the hall, noting debt and limited Barooga use, and the council voted to rescind its prior refusal and proceed with the removal plan.
The State Rivers and Water Supply Commission seeks urgent help from local landholders to complete Murray Valley Irrigation channel work at Cobram during the off irrigation season. Officials state exemptions for rural workers won’t affect national effort, and farmers may spare a fortnight or so to aid the project with flexible hours and award rates available. Contact Cobram offices to volunteer.
The Cobram golf links opened for the 1943 season with mixed foursomes featuring 23 pairs. Winners were J. Jones and Mrs A James with a nett 47 for 12 holes. President absent, vice-President J Gemmell welcomed members and non members and urged membership uptake.
The ordinary monthly meeting on 10th inst. reviewed numerous correspondence items. Requests included truck use for school wood transport, drainage works, street lighting, and water concerns, with approvals and referrals to officers noted. The council also considered war production guidance, road surfacing, and immunisation campaign support.
The Shire Clerk notes difficulty obtaining sufficient labor for road repairs and approves temporary measures to complete bitumen work. A comprehensive health report from Tocumwal cites new diphtheria cases and council guidance. Prosecution of a milk vendor was resolved with penalties. Regulated licensing for a refreshment premises is recommended upon inspection. Norman Blunt appointed linesman. several road and lane improvements planned and inspections ordered.
The marriage at St Cathedral on May 1 united G lady, daughter of Mrs M Cox, to Mr B Cox Ene Michael. Miss Vaima Cus attended as cousin in a grey ensemble with white flowers, bridesmaid wore dusty pink and carried a bouquet, best man was John Gillespie. Reception followed at Wentworth Cafe for relatives of both families.
Miss Mary Cassidy of Cy aja is noted in connection with a coal railway station appointment while Mr and Mrs Chasey report news that Harry arry, prisoner of war, has been located after about fifteen months. Eric Gillespie and Gladys Cox of Cobram are mentioned in local notices as well as T Ryan Cobram.
