In loving memory of Peter Francis Matheson who passed away June 4 1950 at a young age. Dear son of Roma and Don and cherished grandson of F Matheson, always in our thoughts and prayers.
West T. P. O'Reilly and Mrs. E. Harden won the mixed Canadian foursomes with a net 60 on Cobram Barooga links. Numerous other pairs posted strong scores including Harden with Grant and Wilton with Marxson, while Eric Gemmill led the men’s stroke handicap with 65 net. The Pennant team beat Dookie College 4 to 1 and Ken Grant set a course record of 70 at Cobram Barooga, fueling club enthusiasm for the upcoming gymkhana events.
Bob Shadforth wins the inter club 25 mile race from Yarrawonga held on the 25 mile out and back Strath course. Pat O Connor takes time honors in 1 hour 14 minutes 6 seconds, finishing 36 seconds behind the winner. Bernie O Connor and Arthur Dewan also place among fast riders in heavy conditions. Next week Cobram riders join 50 plus riders at Wangaratta for a 35 mile handicap with P O Connor A Dewan R Shadforth B O Connor and E Frasier in the Cobram lineup.
Obituaries report the May 28 death of 85 year old Katamatite resident John Gilmour at Cobram District Hospital with funeral in Katamatite Presbyterian Church. Surviving siblings William and Agnes, service led by Rev. Scott, mortuary by Norman J. Todd Benalla. Charles Owen Geary dies May 26 at Tungamah aged 69 born Tarnagulla, married Emily Jane Martin, with children Charles Leonard Amelia Owen Merle Florence Kenneth and siblings listed.
Jean Margaret Doughty and Walter Vincent Hicks married at St. Josephs Cobram in a Nuptial Mass ceremony. The bride wore white figured organza with a pearl bodice and heart coronet veil. Attendants included Betty Doughty and Mrs Pat Purdon with pink and blue floral dressings. The reception followed at 29 Bank Street with a two tier cake, and the couple will reside in Cobram.
Requiem Mass was celebrated on Friday. The funeral proceeded to Tungamah Cemetery with Rev Father Byrne officiating at the church and graveside. Casket bearers were P Geary C Saunders L Leary A Beil M Murphy O Geary and pallbearers F Murphy D Bell J Canty H Clark R Banfield P Clark. Flower bearers E Bell P Reilly P O Kane L Bell. Funeral arrangements by Norman Todd of Benalla.
A street stall held on June 4 by the Cobram Ladies Hospital Auxiliary raised £25 4s. The dinner competition winner was Mrs. B Loot.
