The Dream Of Christmas and Its Hidden Yearning
A reflective meditation on Christmas as a secret dream of perfect fellowship and a better life. The piece contrasts idealized gatherings with harsh reality, recalling Dickens and Shakespeare, and a vivid memory of a Christmas scene in a wartime trench. It weighs the allure of Dingley Dell against the tempering of disillusionment.

Plywood shortage eased by new veneer treatment
A new veneer treatment from C.S.LR. Division of Forest Products aims to ease plywood shortages. The method uses a stronger cold boric acid dip to immunize sapwood against powder post beetle attack and permits faster production and use of new timber species. Co-operative work with New South Wales and Queensland forest services also enables solid timber immunisation and broader use in pattern making, furniture and flooring.
