Fred Keamy, age 50, died at his home in Ferntree Gully after collapsing during a cricket match. A former Cobram School teacher for about thirty years, he earned the Royal Humane Society Medal for bravery after rescuing three children from the river near Cobram bridge. He later served as headmaster at Ferntree Gully and is survived by his widow, six children, two brothers, and three sisters. The funeral was held at Springvale crematorium.
