Lorna Catherine Mills and Leslie Albert White were married at 5 pm on November 1 in Shepparton's Met Church. The bride wore ivory satin with lace panels, a mother’s veil, and carried lily of the valley roses. the groom is from Katamatite and they plan a honeymoon in Queensland before settling there.
The ladies guild annual fete on November 19 drew strong crowds with well stocked stalls. Winners included Mrs. T N Harris for cake and Mrs. Borthwick for chocolates, plus several others in various contests. Sunday service featured a children’s singing group and duets, with Neil Cameron at the organ. A Christmas tree and Sunday School prizes are planned for December.
Cobram Fire Brigade received the Finley Trophy at a dinner with Finley team and the Finley Businessmen’s Trophy presented to the Cobram captain. The trophy, on display at J Radcliffe’s shop, is open to teams within 150 miles of Finley under NSW brigade rules.
A house party at Mr. and Mrs. Phil Sharp’s Cobram home on Sunday November 21 entertained about 90 guests with cards games competitions and community singing. Proceeds totaled £28 2s 6d including a fruit cake competition won by Tel. The event was organized by Sharp and Mrs. Crosby with support from R E Bourke M Lonergan K Crozier and W Wyatt. Phil Sharp performed several solos before a late supper and the gathering ended at midnight.
Miss Anne Jarvis creator of Mother's Day died in Philadelphia last week at age 84. She organized the first memorial gathering in 1907 to honor her mother and launched a national observance that grew from a small tribute to a holiday. She opposed commercializing the day and spent her final years blind, ill, and impoverished.
