Stokes Opposed in Shire Elections
The Deputy Returning Officer has received nominations from Dr M A Stokes and Mr N H Jordan to fill the vacancy caused by Cr Stokes retirement in the North West Riding of the Shire of Tungapak. At the Shepparton Kennel Show on Saturday July 30 Cobram Kennels took multiple prizes. Gold Labrador bitches Murray Mary and Murrayside Larry earned several firsts plus reserved and other placings. Also prize winners included Brackley Belle and Kinchie Cherie with top finishes.

Cobram Red Cross Annual Meeting Held
Cobram Branch of the Australian Red Cross held its annual meeting. Officers elected include president Miss M Hanrahan vice president Mrs Haw and Mrs Collens honorary secretary treasurer Miss G Evans and honorary auditor Mr A Dixon. The branch reported £37 12 6 sent to headquarters last year. To date in 1949 HQ sent 12 rugs 12 trays and 12 hot water bag covers to Cobram Hospital. Next meeting set for Friday November 2. former members urged to rejoin.
