The board of stewards sets Friday Sept 28 as every member canvass day in Coatesville. Members should decide weekly giving now and be prepared to tell canvassers when contacted. An evening supper by the Calendar club will follow and results shown.
Small towns without regular fire departments can improve protection by placing inexpensive extinguishers in boxes with glass fronts on telephone poles. Cambridge City Indiana has used this plan for two years, reporting three fires extinguished, two from defective heating and one a garage car fire, aiding early detection and containment.
Sept 24 through 29 designated as Library War Fund Week by the Library War Council under Secretary Baker. The drive via the American Library Association seeks $1,000,000 or more to supply books to soldiers, nurses, and camps in the United States and abroad, with Frank A. Vanderlip as chair and Louis J. Calvin S. Rice, born March 8, 1837 in Franklin County Pennsylvania, died September 10, 1917 aged 80 years 6 months 2 days. He married Mary E. Tompkins September 4 1867. seven children were born, five survive John J Edgar O Charlie C Flora G and Orda H. He served 1862 1865 with the 18th Indiana Battery and joined the M E church at Coatesville. He spent much of life in Putnam and Hendricks counties and left a quiet devoted Christian life.
