In precinct reporting, 178 voters registered last Saturday versus 199 in the prior presidential year, with one final chance to register coming later this month.
Dr. Harvey W. Wiley advocates eating whole wheat corn rye barley and other cereals ground like coffee to preserve nutrition. He mocks box foods as overpriced and argues a cereal based diet could cut costs, feeding a working man for about 14 cents a day. He says a cereal heavy diet for thirty days could reduce prices.
Allen Bradford, a Black man accused of burglary and assault involving several women near Hadley, entered a not guilty plea to assault and battery with intent. A preliminary hearing was waived, bond set at 85000 but not posted, and he was jailed to await circuit court. Bradford was chased by a posse across Hendricks and Putnam counties and captured in Eel River township after being struck. Mrs Shelton and others identified him.
The Indiana County Agent reports John Bunten of Marion township Hendricks county as the farmer who produced the best wheat crop this year. Cultivation followed corn and oats with discing and plowing in late July, field harrowed twice after a State Fair visit, and sown in late September with Russian Red Wave and King of the Wheat Field. One and one-quarter bushels per acre and no fertilizer yielded 826 bushels from 19 acres, about 43.5 bushels per acre.
County Agent Orr recommends a grape juice method using ripe grapes water tartaric acid and sugar. After soaking and straining the juice combine with sugar allow settling skim and bottle without sealing, then dilute to drink with lemon and orange juice optional, yielding a thick syrup for grape ice.
Milman recounts a 93 year old Uncle John describing a Civil War episode near Atlanta. Outnumbered and chased by Confederate troops, he fled toward Union lines after a retreating moment when a pursuing soldier tripped, sparing him from capture. The tale ends with humor despite the danger.
Frank Davidson spoke Thursday night at the Christian church to a well attended crowd. The talk on historic places abroad impressed listeners and the ladies in charge are thankful for his lecture and the musical program. A repeat performance is set for Friday at the Stilehystle Methodist church with a 10 cent admission.
