In a letters from Camp Sheridan Alabama Carl Elliott of Provisional Battery 135 I A writes home from Florida heat. He notes Putnam county ties and shared camaraderie with field artillery men. He mentions reading local newspapers Greencastle Banner and Coatesville Herald and asks about crops and family well being. He signs off with affection and predicts more letters if time allows.
In a Sunday morning sermon at the Methodist church, Rev. Stewart declares that money and matériel will not win the war. He says true victory comes only when the nation returns to God through reconsecration to Jesus Christ and prayer.
Local businessmen raise 95 dollars to build a trunk line between Coatesville and Belle Union nine miles south. Belle Union has half already to the National road. Directors plan construction this week and expect work to start once the wire is secured.
County Agent R S Fouts says all threshing outfits must pass government inspections before threshing begins to prevent grain loss from faulty or careless machines. Assets needing repair or junking include many rigs in the county. Farmers with poorly threshed grain should report to County Agent Fouts. only owner name is needed, signature not required.
